<lj:music>Polysics - Ah Yeah!</lj:music>

Well, I'm going through yet another want-to-change-my-life session at the moment. It's been on the cards for a while though so I feel that it's not just a two day 'i know! let's do this!' thing that i then promptly forget. I even seem to be making it happen, in small doses, which is pretty amazing for me, the queen of digressing and postponement. I am even starting a new blog in a new place. Ta-da!

I guess the house move back in March was the first thing - moving to a house we were happy to live in, with a decent sized garden, and our own allotment, has just been a dream. I mean, one of those dreams where you can't fit all your junk into a place and indeed, don't want to, but a dream nevertheless. We eat 'garden meals' every week or so! - we've had beetroot, salad leaves, potatoes, radishes, peas, onions, garlic...all kinds of exciting stuff. All free from chemicals and nearly all grown from seed that cost very little money. Plus of course you get the whole excitement of growing it all yourself (man, I can't wait till the sweetcorn is ready!).

In conjunction with this, I've been meat-avoiding for a while. We briefly wondered if I might have something like IBS or similar, as I seem to have digestion issues - regular upset stomachs in one way or the other. Usually from one way to the other...But then I started to eat less meat as an experiment (and, frankly, to save money and 'cause I can't bear cooking with it) - and then the one day I had some, I had an upset stomach the next day...

So I started to look into full blown vegetarianism, and took the 'veggie option' along to the annual family gathering, and ordered the veggie option at a friends wedding. Over the space of a month or so, it didn't seem like a hardship, and the more I read about it, the better I liked the sound of it. I even felt not-so-huge-as-normal at the wedding, and, on weighing myself when I got back, found out I've lost half a stone, without really putting myself out. So I've decided to (at least) stop eating meat. At the moment, not eating fish isn't on the agenda, as I'm just getting used to this, but it might well be the next stage - though my sushi love will find it really difficult...and are cockles morally wrong? Maybe a vegetarian but excluding some seafood - my holidays in Norfolk just won't be the same without seafood on the beach.

The next thing I want to do - hopefully before my boy's 3rd birthday party in a week's time, yeah right - is the house. We need to just have less stuff! I've been reading the gorgeous things over at Zen Habits and it's felt like inspiration - not in a 'oh-my-god-he-said-this' sort of way, but in a 'yes, i can do this' way. See, it's a nice house - very 1930's - but the kitchen is tiny, the bathroom is tiny, and our bedroom is smaller than our old one (as is Isaac's, but we do have a whole other room). The spare room has just become what the basement was in the old house - Justin's computer room full of instruments - so feels like nothing to do with me, again. We have a shed but that's filled up with all the additional garden stuff we need now we have a garden. The lounge / diner is pretty big - but everything is out on display and so looks terribly cluttered! The list goes on...

I know you can't do minimalist with a toddler, and to be honest I don't want to, in our '30's house with character - but nothing ever gets put away, as there's nowhere to put anything away to. Space wise we have less than we used to, I certainly miss the bedroom space - even though we've moved from a 2 bed to a 3 bed. We just need to purge, and thin, and sort, and tidy, and put things away after ourselves. That's all, huh?!?

<I had a phone call in the middle & my train of thought was derailed, hopefully I'll get it back...>

Okay, so I'm really looking forward to the Japan Ex tomorrow. I'm excited about the possibilities of it, the things I might be able to see,and buy, and the people I might meet. I want to make friends into the same sort of thing as me, and I want to eat sushi and wear kimono and 'be' japanese, for a day.

Here's some photos from the last event :
